A dental implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone where a tooth is missing. Over the following months, the bone fuses with the implant in a process called osseointegration, creating a stable foundation just like a natural tooth root. Once healed, the implant supports a custom crown, a bridge or a full arch of teeth.

Most adults who are missing one or more teeth can be candidates. Good candidates generally:
- Are in good general health.
- Have healthy gums, or are willing to treat gum disease first.
- Have enough jawbone to support an implant, or can rebuild it with a bone graft.
- Are committed to good oral hygiene and regular dental visits.
If you have been told you do not have enough bone for implants, do not rule them out. Bone grafting can often rebuild the area and make implants possible.

The cost depends on how many teeth are being replaced, the type of restoration, and whether you need preparatory treatments like bone grafting or extractions. During your consultation you receive a clear, itemized treatment plan with no surprises — plus flexible payment options and help understanding what your insurance may cover.
Implants vs. dentures and bridges.
Dentures rest on the gums and can slip, making it hard to eat and speak, and they do not stop the bone loss that follows tooth loss. Traditional bridges require grinding down healthy neighboring teeth. Dental implants are anchored in the bone, stay fixed in place and preserve both your jawbone and your healthy teeth. For most patients, they are the most natural and long-lasting way to replace missing teeth. If you wear dentures, ask about implant-supported dentures that stay permanently in place.
Caring for your implants. Implants cannot get cavities, but the gums and bone around them still need care. Brush twice a day, clean between your teeth daily and keep your regular checkups and cleanings. With that routine, your implants can serve you for many years.

I came to Bal Harbour Smiles to get full upper and lower implants done. It was something I wanted for a very long time. Looked into a bunch of places, even considered going out of the country to get this done until I found Bal Harbour Smiles. Everything was so easy. Simi made the process very painless. I mean, I live up in Delray Beach. At this time of the day, you know, coming down here in the morning’s a two-hour drive, but I would have driven double that distance to come here to get this procedure done. I have a deep fear of the dentist from all my years of going and having all the dental issues when I was younger, but I really haven’t had to deal with that at all here. Dr. Ari’s great, all of his assistants. I came to Bal Harbour hoping for redemption and getting a better smile. I’ve had smile difficulty for, I wanna say, a little over 10 years. Coming to Bal Harbour was a blessing, and it was a great experience because it gave me hope, because I felt like I could never get the experience of having a better smile. Certain foods I couldn’t eat, certain things I couldn’t do. Very, very, very embarrassed a lot of times going out and doing certain things. But coming here changed that experience for me. Questions patients ask
How long do dental implants last?
With good oral hygiene and regular checkups, dental implants can last for many years, often decades. The crown on top may need replacement over time due to normal wear.
Does getting a dental implant hurt?
The procedure is done under local anesthesia, so you should not feel pain during treatment. Most patients report mild soreness for a few days afterward, which can usually be managed with over-the-counter medication. Sedation is available for anxious patients.
How long does the dental implant process take?
It depends on your case. Healing after implant placement usually takes a few months while the implant fuses with the bone. Some patients are candidates for same-day temporary teeth.
Am I too old for dental implants?
There is no upper age limit. What matters is your overall health and bone condition. Many patients in their 70s and 80s successfully replace missing teeth with implants.
What if I do not have enough bone for an implant?
Bone grafting can rebuild the jawbone in many cases, making implants possible even after bone loss.
Does insurance cover dental implants?
Some dental plans cover part of implant treatment. Our team will review your benefits with you and explain your options, including flexible payment plans.
How do I know if I need a single implant or full arch?
If you are missing one or a few teeth, single implants or an implant bridge are usually the answer. If you are missing most of your teeth, have many failing teeth or wear dentures, full arch implants (often called All-on-4) may be the better option. Your consultation will tell you which fits your case.
