Repair A Compromised Tooth with a Dental Crown

Porcelain Crowns and Gold Crowns at Bal Harbour Smiles, Miami Beach

At Bal Harbour Smiles, we offer high quality dental crowns to help patients restore strength, function, and beauty to a compromised tooth. Depending upon your needs, a dental crown can also be used to replace a missing tooth when combined with a dental implant. For convenience and versatility, we offer both traditional dental crowns and same-day crowns using our advanced CEREC system. In addition, we offer a variety of crown materials, including full porcelain, zirconia, and metal. Dr. Yudah Ari Benmergui in Miami Beach, FL, has practiced advanced cosmetic and restorative dentistry for over 20 years. After examining your smile, he can determine the most effective treatment plan for you.

Dental crowns are quite versatile and are used in many ways to cover and protect a tooth. At Bal Harbour Smiles in Miami Beach, Florida, we craft beautiful crowns that fit well and that look great. Some think of them as jewelry for your teeth. They cover unsightly problems, they add stability, and they can be part of a prosthetic that restores your smile. While most people nowadays opt for porcelain crowns because they fit seamlessly into your smile, we also offer gold crowns, too.

Whether you’re interested in capping a tooth that had a root canal, are interested in dental bridges to replace missing teeth, dental implants, or crowns to cap a damaged or discolored tooth, we would be happy to offer you a no-obligation consultation.

About Dental Crowns

A traditional crown, also known as a “cap,” completely encases a damaged tooth, restoring natural form and optimal dental function. Available in a variety of custom enamel shades, porcelain crowns are designed to blend seamlessly with adjacent teeth, complementing your bite and smile.

A dental crown covers the visible surface of a compromised tooth for added strength and protection.

Am I a Candidate?

You may be a candidate for a dental crown if you have:

  • Sustained dental trauma: When a tooth is broken or severely cracked, a crown can conceal the damage and provide renewed structure in addition to full bite strength.
  • Cosmetic flaws: A crown can perform a strictly cosmetic function, effectively masking intrinsic stains, chips and other imperfections.
  • A dental bridge: Crowns placed adjacent to missing teeth can form the basis of a dental bridge, which can fill gaps in your smile.
  • A dental implant: Affixed to a dental implant, a crown is an ideal way to replace a missing tooth.
  • Undergone root canal therapy: If you have a dental infection, we can perform root canal treatment and place a dental crown, preserving the integrity of the tooth.

If you have a damaged tooth that can still be salvaged, we recommend a dental crown over extraction. It is preferable for patients to retain natural teeth and healthy tooth roots whenever possible, and a crown provides the necessary support and structure to allow a compromised tooth to remain in place.

When are Dental Crowns Appropriate?

• To strengthen and improve the appearance and size of a tooth that has been treated for a root canal

• To restore a broken or cracked tooth

• To cover a misshapen tooth
